Can I see who may like my property?

Yes you can!

  • Go to your House Exchange homepage
  • Click ‘Who wants my home’. This is found under 'Where to?'
  • You will be presented with a list of people who may be interested in moving to your property.

These won’t directly match your requirements, however if you’re struggling to find a home swap this is a great place to look as it may help you consider locations which you had not thought about before.

Someone has offered me money to move. Can I accept this?

You should not accept money offered to you to move. You and the other person could have your mutual exchange application refused and both could be evicted and lose your homes. Please refer to your landlord’s policy for further information.

I have a joint tenancy can I swap?

Where a tenancy has been granted to more than one person you are both jointly responsible. In order to complete a mutual exchange, both tenants will have to agree to this taking place, as both will have to sign the Deed of Assignment. The Deed of Assignment is used when an existing and ongoing tenancy is transferred from one tenant to another.

I am in rent arrears, can I still swap?

The answer to this question really depends on your landlords policy. If you are in arrears and your registration has been approved, please discuss any concerns with your landlord as they are likely to want these cleared prior to a mutual exchange going ahead.

If you have paid to use our service please ensure you check with your landlord what their policy is with regards to arrears, as again they would usually expect you to clear all arrears before proceeding with an exchange.

What is a multi-swap?

A multi-swap is a mutual exchange with involves three or more properties. It can be useful if you're struggling to find a direct home swap. It creates a chain which is similar to the housing market.

How long is my account active for?

Your account will remain active as long as it remains in use.

If you do not log into your account for a period of 6 months it will automatically close.

We do this to ensure that the majority of the properties you see on the website are still available for a mutual exchange.
To guarantee that your account remains active please make sure that you log in regularly, the 6 month countdown resets every time you log in.
If you complete an exchange or wish to end your membership please remember to close your account.
Please note, subscription memberships run for the length of time chosen upon registration.

How do I know that the information on the website is accurate?

During registration applicants supply their own information. While we endeavor to review the adverts on House Exchange, we do rely on tenants providing the correct information. We are unable to accept liability for any incorrect information contained within adverts on the website.
We therefore recommend that you check the details of a property before you agree a mutual exchange. For example, make sure to ask for photos and carry out viewings if able to, as well as asking plenty of questions.

If you do have any concerns about an advert or a tenant, please get in touch with us here.
